Yannick Schwaller’s team is proving their worth as the World’s No. 1-ranked rink.
The Swiss squad crushed Norway’s Magnus Ramsfjell 7-3 during the Co-op Invitational final in Victoria B.C. to earn the first Slam title of the new quadrennial.
It’s the second Grand Slam title they’ve won in the last three events. Schwaller’s fourth stone thrower, Benoit Schwarz Van-Berkel, had one previous Slam title before joining the Swiss squad.
The game was unofficially over after the third end when Ramsfjell was heavy on a draw facing four of Schwaller’s stones in the four-foot. The miss gave the Swiss squad a steal of four to take a 5-0 lead.
Van-Berkel made sure the game was out of reach with a great weight-controlled hit for two with his last in the fifth to make it 7-1.
The next stop on the Slam Tour is the GSOC Masters, happening Nov. 3-8 in Medicine Hat, Alta.
