Report: Diamondbacks’ Ketel Marte doesn’t show up for game vs. Red Sox

Ketel Marte was placed on the restricted list shortly before first pitch of Monday’s game against the Boston Red Sox, the team announced. Infielder Jose Fernandez was recalled from triple-A in a corresponding move.

Arizona Sports radio host John Gambadoro reported that Marte did not show up for batting practice at Fenway Park before the game.

Marte has a .249 average this season with 21 home runs and 67 RBIs. He was a National League All-Star in 2019, 2024 and 2025.

Despite Marte’s impressive 10-year run in the desert, reports came out during the 2025 season that the infielder can frustrate teammates and coaches in the clubhouse.

After the 2025 MLB All-Star Game, Marte missed three games after he flew back to his home in the Dominican Republic.

He apologized to the team and said he was “frustrated” and “in a bad spot” after he learned his residence in Scottsdale, Ariz., had been burglarized during the break.

The Arizona Republic reported that some teammates were frustrated with the second baseman’s behaviour in 2025 and that his absence following the All-Star break might have partially caused the team’s collapse prior to the trade deadline.

This season, the Diamondbacks sit one game out of the final NL wild-card spot entering Monday’s game.
